Good cladding starts long before the first slab goes up. This is the site preparation checklist we follow, drawn from our work on the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument, where installation began on 10 June.

1. Check the structure
The substrate must be sound, clean and within tolerance. Large deviations in the wall have to be corrected before stone goes on.
2. Set up safe access
Scaffolding must be complete, stable and tied to the structure, with enough working room for crews to handle large pieces.

3. Set out from the drawings
Mark grid lines, levels and joints from the approved drawings. Setting out accurately keeps the pattern straight across hundreds of slabs.
4. Confirm the fixing method
The fixing system is chosen by the engineer for the stone, the thickness and the building. Installers follow that specification and nothing else.
5. Plan the joints
Allow for movement and drainage. Consistent joint widths make a façade look sharp, and movement joints protect it over time.
6. Handle and store stone carefully
Keep crates dry and level, lift with the right equipment, and unwrap only what will be fixed that day.

7. Protect and clean
Protect finished surfaces while other trades work nearby. Clean off residue with products suitable for the stone.

Frequently asked questions
Who decides the fixing system?
The project engineer or façade designer, based on the stone, thickness and building.
Can installation start while stone is still arriving?
Yes, if deliveries are planned in phases. We did this on the Yadgar-e-Fatah project.
